If you have Health Net coverage, you may have recently heard news that Health Net is leaving the California Group Health insurance market. While this announcement may sound concerning, there is an important distinction that Health Net members need to understand:
If you have a Health Net Medicare plan or an Individual & Family plan, this announcement does not mean your coverage is going away.
Health Net is exiting the California commercial Small Group and Large Group medical markets. The change affects employer-sponsored Group Health policies, with affected group coverage scheduled to transition away from Health Net by February 28, 2027. It does not apply to Health Net’s Medicare or Individual/Family lines of business.
Medicare Members: Your Coverage Is Not Being Cancelled
If you receive your Medicare coverage through Health Net, you do not need to switch plans simply because of this announcement. Health Net continues to offer Medicare products, and the company’s own broker information continues to provide resources for its Medicare business.
As always, Medicare members should continue reviewing their coverage during appropriate enrollment periods to make sure their plan still meets their healthcare and financial needs. However, the California Group Health market exit is not a reason by itself to assume that your Medicare coverage is ending.
Individual and Family Members Are Also Not Affected
The same reassurance applies if you have an Individual or Family Health Net plan. The announcement concerns employer-sponsored Group Health insurance, not Individual and Family coverage.
