Each year around tax time, health insurance members begin receiving forms related to their coverage. One document you may receive soon is Form 1095-B, which confirms that you had qualifying health insurance during the 2025 calendar year. While this form is informational for most people, understanding its purpose can help you stay organized and avoid unnecessary concern.
Please note: This information does not apply to Medicare beneficiaries.
When Will Form 1095-B Arrive?
Health insurance carriers typically start sending Form 1095-B at the end of January. For members covered by Health Net, mailings will begin January 31, 2026. Carriers have until March 2, 2026, to provide this form, so delivery times may vary. If you don’t receive it right away, that’s completely normal.
Do You Need This Form to File Your 2025 Taxes?
In most situations, Form 1095-B is not required to file your federal or California state tax return. You do not need to wait for this form before submitting your taxes.
That said, it’s a good idea to keep the form with your tax records once it arrives. If the IRS or the California Franchise Tax Board requests confirmation of health coverage at a later date, Form 1095-B serves as proof that you were insured.
Who Can Expect to Receive Form 1095-B?
You will receive Form 1095-B if you had Health Net coverage at any point during 2025 under one of the following plan types:
- Small Business Group plans
- Large Group employer-sponsored plans
- Individual or Family plans purchased outside of Covered California
If you enrolled in a Health Net Individual or Family plan through Covered California, you will not receive Form 1095-B from Health Net. Instead, Covered California will mail Form 1095-A, which is used for marketplace coverage reporting.
In addition to sending the form to members, Health Net also submits coverage data to the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board to verify reported months of insurance coverage.
What Should You Do Next?
For most members, no action is required other than watching your mail and saving the form once it arrives. If you believe your information is incorrect, are missing a form, or have questions about which document applies to you, it’s best to address those questions sooner rather than later.
